About Our Cold Plunge Challenge

We are excited to be running our next Cold Plunge Challenge starting on January 24th. This challenge will run for 11 weeks and will be a great opportunity for those seeking some accountability and incentive in making cold exposure a part of your weekly routine. The last plunge of this challenge will be on March 3rd.

Each week, we start our practice with 3 rounds of breathwork, followed by a three minute plunge before joining together in a big circle for some guided qigong movements. We bring a meditative aspect to these events and so we ask that during the plunge itself, you remain silent so that everyone can have space to feel into the sensations brought about by the cold.

For those that are able to attend all 11 of our weekly plunges, you will win a variety of different prizes from our challenge sponsors. The prizes for this challenge will be updated below soon, but for now, take a look at the prizes from our last challenge to get an idea of what to expect…

  • Essentials: Bathing suit, warm layers, change of clothing. Umbrella or rainjacket if it is raining to keep you and your things dry. Sandals or water shoes to wear in the ocean and during the Qigong.

    Optional: A poncho or robe to make changing easier for you after. Warm tea.

  • 1.) You will only be able to miss one cold plunge to remain in the challenge. And even still, if you do miss one, you will need to film yourself making it up and submit this to us using this form. As well, please share your redo on social media.

    2.) Your plunge counts as long as you make it in the water with us. If you are late and miss the breathwork, your plunge will still count. Likewise, if you have to leave before the Qigong, it will also still count.

    3.) You will need to submit your attendance each week using our attendance webpage with the unique password you receive each week. No sharing passwords with friends who do not make it. You will have 6 days after each plunge to submit your attendance, if you miss, that plunge will NOT be counted and you will have to use that missed plunge as your one miss. So don’t forgot to submit your attendance!

7:30am sharp every Wednesday morning at Kitsilano Beach. Look for the white Flying Sage tent on the West end of the beach.


About Your Facilitators

Gabriel Largaespada

Gabriel is a movement coach at Restore Human in Vancouver, was born and raised in Nicaragua and has always had an affinity for the realm of the physical, the psychological and the spiritual. Gabo’s connection to the spiritual realm was initiated through psychedelic medicines, meditation and breath work practices. He’s guided group meditations, facilitated healing events and now aims to continue furthering his passion for helping people through a modality that he finds incredibly powerful, psychedelic medicines. Gabriel is a Community Leader with The Flying Sage and has facilitated many integration circles and breathwork events as one of the organization's core team members.

Kiem Schutter

Kiem is the Founder and CEO of Qi Integrated Health working to change alternative medicine into allied health. Hosting psychedelic medical research, treatment and training. Kiem also leads a weekly Qi Gong practice with The Flying Sage as part of their Cold Plunge Challenge. Kiem is a health nut, friend, family man and he loves a good dance party and spending time in the mountains on a snowboard. 

Claudia Bastien

Claudia is an Anishinaabe Kwe who loves finding cold water in the alpine. From wild alpine lakes, to intentionally practicing cold exposure therapy regularly since 2015, Claudia is experienced in facilitating/ guiding groups of 10 - 50 through a journey with cold exposure. Utilizing meditation and breathwork, Claudia supports participants and their nervous systems as they prepare for their plunge into the cold.

pricing/register

The cost to participate in the challenge will be $30 for the public or free for Sage Members. To register for the challenge, you will need to purchase a ticket using the button below. Proceeds from ticket sales go to MAPS Canada to help fund important research into psychedelic health treatments.

The plunges themselves are free and open to anyone to drop-in. You do not need to be in the challenge to participate in the plunges. However, you do need to be in the challenge if you want to win prizes and have us track your attendance.
